Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Safety at Railcar Offloading Facility
Destree Consulting, Inc. on the scene of one of its latest consulting projects, Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) safety and emergency response at a petroleum pipeline company crude oil railcar loading facility in the metro Chicago, Illinois area. Aspects of H2S safety included ANSI/ASSE Z390.1 - 2006 (R2010) Accepted Practices of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Training Programs based Hydrogen Sulfide safety and emergency response, detection, rescue and respiratory protection.
Management and operations staff were trained, tested and certified to work at the railcar loading facility. Hazards of Crude oil (various grades), flammable liquids and liquefied petroleum gases, benzene and H2S toxicity, use of multi-gas hazardous atmosphere monitors and instruments, respiratory hazards and 29 CFR 1910.134 Respiratory Protection standard (classroom theory and hands-on competency) were covered and thoroughly explored. Consulting and related operations training course was instructed by certified (ANSI – Texas A&M) Hydrogen Sulfide Safety instructor Keith Destree, CSP, CET.
